Altèri Chamber Choir

The Altèri Chamber Choir was founded in 1995. Based in South Manchester, it has performed all over the North West, giving concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music, cathedrals in Liverpool, Manchester, St Asaph and Bangor, churches in Chester, Southport, Lymm (as part of the Lymm Festival), Bowdon, Hale, Dunham Massey and Mellor, and at both Bramall and Tatton Halls. Altèri presents at least three major programmes each season, as well as taking part in charity events.

Altèri has a repertoire encompassing a thousand years of music from Plainsong and organum through Machaut and Dufay to the glories of Tudor church music and beyond. Altèri is committed to commissioning, performing and promoting new choral music: over the past few seasons it has given first performances of works by David Ellis, John Hawkins, Alan Lees and Jeffrey Lewis. As well as more unusual repertoire, Altèri has also included choral favourites by Handel, Vivaldi and Fauré in its programme. To explore the unique flavour of our concert programming, please click on the Archive tab under Concerts.

Altèri’s Musical Director is David Jones, who is Accompanist Co-ordinator at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Membership of the Choir is by audition.

Alteri currently has one vacancy in the Tenor section and two vacancies in the Bass section. Sopranos and altos are also invited to audition, but there may not immediately be any vacancies in these sections.
